An insurer may not prohibit a repair person or facitily from providing a beneficiary or third-party claimant with information that states the description, manufacturer, or source of the parts used and the amounts charged to the insurer for the parts and related labor.
New OEM Parts -- these parts come from the Original Equipment Manufacturer ('OEM') for your vehicle: either the manufacturer of your vehicle or the source formerly or currently used by your manufacturer for parts for your vehicle. They have never been on another vehicle.
Salvage Parts -- these are OEM parts that have been removed from another vehicle of your make and model (or a substitutable make and model). They are from the same source as the damaged parts that will be replaced, but have been used on another vehicle.
Remanufactured Salvage Parts -- these are OEM parts that have been removed from another vehicle of your make and model (or a substitutable make and model), and have then been returned to 'as new' condition. They are from the same source as the damaged parts that will be replaced, but have been used on another vehicle, and then reconditioned or rebuilt. NOTE: Because of our experience with these parts, we cannot warranty any repairs using these parts for fit and finish. We will not discount any re-do work or be responsible for loss of use of your vehicle or rental of a replacement vehicle during any re-do work. You should ask your insurer for a written statement that
(1) these parts have been satisfactroily crash-tested and (2) the insurer will warranty the fit and finish of repairs using these parts. Unless we are provided with documented crash test results, we accept no liability for any failure of these parts and any damages resulting from such failure.
Aftermarket Parts -- these parts have been manufactured to replace OEM parts by companies other thatn the OEM. They have never been on another vehicle, but are from a different source that the damaged parts that will be replaced. NOTE: Because of our experience with these parts, we cannot warranty any repairs using these parts for fit and finish. We will not discount any re-do work or be responsible for loss of use of your vehicle or rental of a replacement vehicle during any re-do work. You should ask your insurer for a written statement that (1) these parts have been satisfactroily crash-tested and (2) the insurer will warranty the fit and finish of repairs using these parts. The dollar amounts charged to an insurance company for repair parts and related labor should either be on your receipt, or should be provided to you at your request.
